Fun Facts About the Author
What inspired you to become an author?
My sixth grade English teacher. She used to give us writing prompts daily in class and that made writing fun for me and my friends.
Where did you find your inspiration for the book, The Summer That Dried My Tears?
Listening to music. As I listen to music, images come to mind, and it makes me think of all kinds of things. I find that this helps me get going at writing. It is like my cure for writer’s block.
Who is your favorite author?
Erin Hunter author of the Warriors book series. Close second would be Marissa Meyer of The Lunar Chronicles.
What kind of a farm do you live on?
I live on a hobby farm. However, as I was growing up, it used to be a fully functioning farm with dairy cattle, a horse, dogs, chickens, rabbits, and cats. That started my lifelong passion for animals. I grew up working right along side my family bailing hay, milking cows, and caring for all the animals on the farm.
What was your first pet?
My beloved dog Lassie. She was a Border Collie that I got for my fifth birthday. We spent many hours together roaming the woods or playing kickball.
What is a memory you have from growing up?
One year when my dog Lassie had puppies, I had a lot of picnics at the edge of the corn field with all her puppies, a few cats, and my cow Ivy. I would have a blanket laid out and some snacks for everyone. Ivy would eat the grass, the puppies would play, and I took care of everyone.
What advice would you give other authors?
Follow your passions. Finish what you start. Don’t let anybody tell you that you can’t do something.
What are your future plans?
Building a house on the farm, having children, and writing my next best-seller.
